Hi,
I'm just looking for some peoples opinions about a possible job opportunity.
I have a good job at the moment, it's a place that I enjoy working and the pay is ok. It is a slightly less involved role than I was doing in the last few years but I am recently getting more responsibility.
Previously I was working abroad as a team lead and specialist in a certain field but I left to come home for personal / family reasons and found the job I have now, which is not related to the specialist knowledge I have as there is not much demand for it here.
Recently a number of companies in the field I used to work in have contacted me to see about jobs or contracts but none seemed interested when I said I wanted to stay in Ireland but that if I was willing to travel with Ireland as a base then they would be interested.
Now one company, where a number or former colleagues are working, has come back to me and said I can work from Ireland for them (subject to successful interviews / testing etc).
It's a 6 month rolling contract and my former colleagues have been there for about 2 years on this type of contract and I am reliably informed that there is 2yrs+ work for the role they want me for.
The new role would be twice the money I am currently on but obviously it's a risk and doesn't come with the security or benefits of the current job.
I am trying to get some money together to buy property and this job is very appealing because it would mean I would have a deposit quickly (about 6 months as opposed to 1.5 to 2 years in my current job).
I am considering what to do if I do get the job offer. I like where I work but did like the responsibilities I used to have.
What do people reckon? I know I am lucky to be in this position in the recession but I am cautious about making a move that I may regret.
Any opinions / advice would be appreciated.
Thanks,
