What are the unit rates?

I recently renewed with Energia.

Elec unit rate = 19.98 cent less 36% discount = 12.79 cent net excl VAT.

Gas = 6.25 less 35% discount = 4.0625 cent excl VAT

With this offer
- Electricity looks like 13.20 cents
- Gas 3.81 cents ?

My elec rate is 12.79 + 13.5% VAT = 14.52 cent, so 13.2 cent is very good.

My gas is 4.0625 + 13.5% VAT = 4.61 cent, so 3.81 is very good.

However, my rates exclude a rate cut happening this month or next month.

These are the new Energia rates, incl VAT

Elec = 22 cent, I pay 36% less, meaning 14.08, so your 13.20 is very good.

Gas = 6.24 cent, I pay 35% less, meaning 4.056.


I note that the Energia website now lists discounts up to 40% off elec and 39% off gas.

the key is "up to.."

A discount could be up to 80% if the initial rate is high

Discount % are a red herring - to be ignored.

The ONLY thing that matters is the cost per unit kWh
