Can anyone tell me what the going rate is per hour or per week or per month for being "on call" outside of normal working hours for the IT area?

Re: On Call Premium

I receive a fixed rate of €93 for each night of on-call which works out better than other's in the company on the mainframe side who receive about €340 for on-call for the full week (5 nights).

Re: On Call Premium

in my last company we used only get 120 for the week....BEFORE tax. I think it was 12 a day for weekdays. 20 for Sat and 40 for sundays. Roughly.

Re: On Call Premium

We don't do nights in general , 9-6 Sat,Sun and bank hoildays
On-Call (non-active), 50% of your hourly rate is paid. .5 day in lieu on bankholidays
On-Call (active), 100% of your hourly rate is paid, bankholidays 200% of hourly rate.

per week day = 32 euro
per weekend/public holiday day = 82 euro

so full week week on call 24x7 = 324 euro

plus if you are actually called for an emergency you get min of 3 hours overtime.

127 per week for 24 * 7 oncall support plus time and a half for any actual calls. I reckon this is pretty poor and is based on the rate in the home country of the company I work for that has very low personal taxation but they make up for it in other ways.

There doesn't seem to be a going rate, I've seen both what garryks describes, and nothing (i.e. it's part of the job).

The otherside of it though it hours worked and time in lieu. have a look at
You are entitled to 11 consecutive hours rest in any period of 24 hours

I am after being asked to do on call cover for the 26th Dec to the 2nd Jan, I work for an IT support company and the cover is to provide IT cover to 3 major sites over this period, the director of the company I work for said if i am on call and get a call they will pay me 80% of the call out fee that they charge, but will not pay me to be on call.

I think this is unfair as I am hanging around waiting on a call for the 7 days and if i get no calls I get paid nothing but still am waiting around.
He has asked me to come back to him tomorrow with what I want and what I am willing to do.
I reakon first of all I will only provide cover from 8am until 6pm on a week day and no cover at weekends - the 3 sites should be ok with this as they never have cover at weekends.
I then need to agree a fee for being on call
A fee if I have to provide phone support
Fee for call out ( min of 3 hours payment if called in?)

Any suggestions?

Used to get 2 days in lieu on days like that. Think its a bit much to be on call for such a long time. Usually is two or three days at a time.
