Older people are not being represented effectively in an techno world. Noticing an absence of voices. Harris asks for ideas on Instagram and wonder how many 70+ folks are posting back? Even if tech savvy they make make choices to avoid Instagram as see value of not being always online. Government talking about reducing attention deficits on the one hand yet encouraging online engagement. Where are the older peoples voices now? They are a large cohort in Ireland and seem to be very underrepresented.

Why would he bother? Their votes are secured either decades ago via civil war politics, or at budget time with an increase on their benefits.

Well workers were missing from budget 2026, everyone got an increase , social welfare and pensioners got an increase in payments in 2026 but workers were ignored, they effectively got taxed more as the tax bands and tax free thresholds were frozen. Amazingly donohue got little blow back but now government realises it was a big mistake and they are trying to rebalance in budget 2027 by emphasising that work must pay.

This isn't about division politics or false narratives. Every age group wants their particular needs to be met even if at budget time. Older people no more than any other age group are also not homogeneous. Many are also still working too and still have mortgages. The point was their voices seem to be missing from discussions and news articles. Yes the usual submissions have been put in like every other grouping but the experience and value of older peoole is too often dismissed. Do Irish people actually value experience and accumulated knowledge as a resource. Supporting that knowledge in the workforce matters and government leading out on part-time job opportunities that suit people as they age. Creating opportunities for people if different ages to mix and learn from each other matters. Decision making that only listens to certain age groups is lacking in knowledge. A whole society approach should matter to us all as we all go through all these life stages.
