I have some of my Dad's opera records from the 1940s and 1950's not sure whether to dump them or if they would have any value?

Don't dump them. At least donate them to a charity shop.

Novel and probably a little qwerky, but, get down to IKEA, pick up a few of them €1.99 plain white wall clocks.
Remove the motorised part and reassemble to the record. Some double sided tape and job done.

Hand out to family as a momentousness memory of you dad.

You'll get more out of that long term than the few bucks you will make on selling them.
