I have AIB travellers cheques $ 650 which i never used after 9/11. Now i am going on a cruise in USA and i wanted to change them here to dollar bills but AIB today informed me after consulting head office that they are worthless.
Can anyone out there give me any advice,i think this is outrageous.
Thanking you

Travellers cheques have no expiry date.

It seems you need to either find a way to encash them or to return them to AIB.

En-cashing can be done in a very limited number of places. Very few places accept travellers cheques anymore. You could try bureau de change retail units in airports etc

Did AIB advise as to what their return policy is? Granted, 16 years is a hell of a long time.

OP, if, as others say, Travellers Cheques have no expiry date, you could lodge them with your cruise ship on embarkation towards your onboard account. They will refund any used balance after the cruise.
