off setting investment fund losses against tax

I had a managed fund portfolio with an investment co since 2005, it reduced by 1/3 due to the crisis and I moved the remainder to a secure cash fund in 2009.
If I take the money out of the current fund I will crystallize my losses. Can these losses be offset against tax, future earnings, or is there any other way to minimize these losses?
Appreciate any advice.

No. You can't use these losses against gains elsewhere.

However, any gains from now until it breaks even will be free of tax.
