NTL want access - what to do?

well if they install the line and give you some deal on their subscription fee in return for using your garden then the assumption is that they are being given access to the line whenever they need to update it etc. Can't imagine they'd be too excited about removing it and finding some other route for the cables once the project is completed. I would say there should be a legal document to back up the terms of access and other expectations anyway.

Personally I wouldn't want any additional utilities running through my property. What happens if you accidentally cut the wire when trimming the hedge...... Just sounds like extra hassle
 
I'd imagine there are terms about this in the standard agreement signed by every NTL customer?

No, sorry, we didn't progress past the point of them asking if they could run the line through our garden and us telling them we weren't interested. However we did discuss it a bit ourselves first and it seemed to make sense that if we let them do it there should be some legal agreement of what their rights of access were and what we were going to be given in return for the inconvenience of having workmen on our property and the potential for them causing some damage to the garden or whatever they were working on.
 
We have a cable access at home and I've never seen an agreement. It was cable link who installed it.
 
I live in an end house, they needed to put up a cable on my gable end for the houses along the road I said no it was my gableend. They agreed to give me lifetime free NTL.
 
Thank you for all your comments. However, I am still undecided about what to do. If I don't let go through my garden, NTL will have to dig up the road etc. They will sign indemnities and say that there will no problems while carrying out the work.
I would like to hear from anyone who has allowed NTL to go through their garden and can confirm that there were no problems in order to calm my mind. Thanks again.
 
I am the opposite.

I can't get any NTL/UPC services due to the house 2 doors down, who are "stoppers".

For some reason, they must have refused to allow a cable to be strung underneath the soffat / fascia across the back of their house.

I was looking forward to getting the triple-play service of TV, telephone and broadband for 49 per month.

But I can't get that service.
