NTL Digital Installation - Not Working Yet

Just got a call from my bewildered dad..NTL came out this morning to install digital (cable not satellite)...Guy installed a new 'box' connected it up but it appears to be waiting for a signal. He left saying 'that'll take a few minutes, call NTL if it doesn't come on'. That was at 9 o'clock this morning....Does it normally take a while? Anyone any experience of this?
 
He should definitely ring them and complain.
I think that the installation guy should not have left without checking why there is no signal. I think he was fobbed off with a rubbish excuse by somone who didn't want to finish the job.

We needed to get the cable from the front of the house to the back of the house replaced in order to get digital. The existing cable was ancient and was degrading the signal too much for digital to work. Something like this might be the problem but an NTL engineer will have to diagnose it.
 
Yes he has spoken to their call centre twice and they have suggested waiting...Very frustrating!
 
When I got mine the installer had to ring in to have the viewing card commissioned. He was on hold for 20 minutes plus (even though they have a dedicated number) and was telling me that this waiting around was one of the reasons why they miss appointments. No excuse but maybe your installer planned on calling them all in later to save time??

If all else fails try unplugging the box at the mains for 30 seconds and then turning it back on again. This is usually the NTL solution to all ills.
 
Thanks guys..It eventually came on this evening after six...I'd say the installer waited and rang all of his in at once....Father no longer bewildered!
