My brother owns a 2nd property which he cannot afford to pay the mortgage for. I have been helping with the payments and am continuing to do so.
I have found out that he has not paid the NPPR for any year.
I was wondering if I was to register for 2012, is there any way the council would know that the property should have been registered earlier?
 
Probably not, but when the property is sold or transferred it might come to light then. Why are you paying the NPPR?
 
I read in the paper recently that someone who has not yet paid NPPR on a second home would now owe around €2.5K.
It is only going to get bigger.
I invested savings into the restoration of the house, so I am trying to protect that, plus I don't want to see him going bankrupt.
