Is it good idea to let local guards know when u going to be out of the country on business or holiday or away from home for any length of time or have they enough on their plates that they dont have time/care re this
Thanks

Cant see the point. They are not going to go around and check the place on a regular basis. The guard you informed will change shifts while you are away and will probably not inform any other guard of your departure. You would be better informing your neighbours.

Imagine if everybody who went away for a weekend, travelled for an overnight business meeting, booked a package holiday or was attending aunt Daisy's 40th wedding anniversary, converged on every Garda Station in the country seeking protection for their three bedroom semi-detatched castle.

I'd love to hear the full taped conversation at the garda station from some overworked cop confined to desk duties.

Gardai may not even come out if your alarm goes off, unless they are called specifically. Better idea to let your neighbours know and have someone check the house on a regular basis

We always leave a key with our next door neighbour so that he can get the post in and water the house plants. I've told him that he can let a couple of bedrooms while we're away but he hasn't bothered to yet!
