Hi,
I have a 6 month contract in my current job, started in April finishing in October. My contract says i must give one months notice. Can my employer force me to give one months notice?

Yes. It is in your contract, to leave earlier will be in breach. Can you ask them if they will pay you in lieu?

The problem is I think i might just be offered another and better job, which wants somebody asap. My supervisor has just decided to hate me and everything i do is wrong so i really want to get out of here asap!

Best to talk to him about it.

As quinno said, your notice period is whatever is in your contract.

Like any contract, it can be ammended by agreement of the original parties.

Best advice is to talk to your current employer and see will they waive some or all of the notice period.

if you're in the job less than 12 weeks, legally you can give a weeeks notice, regardless of what it says in contract....

but remember you should never burn your bridges...
