Not qualified for job - urgent advice needed

When I started my present job my qualification/education was not questioned. They knew my previous work and I was offered the job on that basis. My employer and workmates always assumed I had the same education qualfications as they and no-one memtioned it. Only once was I asked outright and I lied because I got a shock:(

Now, my employer has asked for people to refesh their CV and have them for next week. I am afraid with all the cutbacks this is a way of getting rid of people. What can I do? Help please.
 
What does your contract say about the qualification in question?
If you did not misrepresented your qualifications at the interview stage and if such qualifications are not a legal requirement for you to carry out your job then I don't see the problem.
As an employer I would say that I would be on very dodgy grounds if I sacked somebody for the grounds you have outlined.

My advice would be to just refresh your CV, hand it in and say nothing.
If the issue arises just tell the truth, putting your erroneous comments in context, and apologise.

She couldn't be fired for not having the qualifications.

But qualifications could well be one of the criteria in selecting people for redundancy.

Thank you for your reply -the qualification or rather standard of education is generallly considered to be necessary for my job. My standard of education is lower but as I said it never came up except for that one instance when I did lie ( I am ashamed to admit). My boss now assumes I have the education I lied about and it is his boss asking for the CV's! so he might end up in trouble too.

Help!
 
You are qualified by experience. You were not asked for a CV at the time of securing the post so no problem there. In what context were you asked about your qualification ? Was it just a conversation in the canteen or something ? What are the chances of anyone even remembering it. If they say anything you assumed what I said earlier - you are qualified by experience. Why is your employer be looking for a copy of your C.V. now anyway ? Are you a consultancy company ?

Let him worry about himself.
If you really value your professional relationship you could request a meeting and discuss it with him.

But be prepared:-
Update your CV with all the years of experience you have put in place working for your present employer.
List any courses or CPD's [coninuous professional development] you have been on.
List any awards received or achievements in your chosen field.
List any promotions you have received.
List any commendations you have received or earned from your company from clients.

Chin up.
Head down.
You know what I mean - be brave and keep working hard.
