Not enough Paint

Hi have a bit of a quandry.

I am painting the exterior of my house. On Saturday I went to a well known paint shop to price my paint. An assistant calculated the area of my house (I brought in my house plans) and informed me how much paint I would need, gave me quote etc.

I sent my OH out yesterday to buy said paint and he also got the assistant to calculate area of house etc.

Painter has arrived this morning and has announced that we have not enough paint at all. In fact we need a lot more.

I really cannot afford to buy any more paint and because the paint is mixed I don't think I can return it.

What options do I have?
 
The painter will put on 3 coats. Its the first time the house has been painted.
 
Can he not undercoat in a weatherproof undercoat white paint and use the good paint for the top two coats?
 
He is undercoating with a cheaper paint closer to the main colour. The main colour is a deep mustard colour and the assistant advised me not to go for a white undercoat because it would mean an extra coat of the expensive paint.
