Northern Rock bailed out by Bank of England

Not trying to unnerve everybody any further but my wife and I called in Friday morning to their offices at 10 am and made a same transfer. Then we eventually got on line Saturday, to discover in my case( internet account) that there were no pending transactions and balance was as normal - nothing had been done ...so completely panicked we made the same withdrawal request again on - line ..then on Sunday on my statement online the original request appeared as "same day withdrawal sent to your bank" with second request shown as pending even though there are not sufficinet funds to meet it =- same day request was done on 14/09/......Still nothing in my bank today even though done as same day transfer on Friday and was charged 25euro.....unless the second duplicated withdrawal has caused a problem . My own bank assured me it should be in by now under normal circumstances ...

Having said all of that I always have noticed EFT's never ever work according to plan at the best of times and this is certainly not that .

My own hunch, and it is just a guess , is that they are trying to manage cashflow and limiting or at least monitoring the transfers . For example they have now stopped same day transfers... at the best of times I have seen same day transfers take 3/4 days...

The 64 m dollar question at this stage is ,has anyone who has requested a transfer online , over the phone or whatever received funds in their external account at this point?

Not good for the oul ticker!

Just got into my online account. I made a withdrawl (not same day) in the early hours of Friday 14th.

Statement of account now showing: "Electronic Payment Sent to your Bank". I'm with BOI. It will be interesting to see how quickly that shower credit my current account!

My account now shows that the withdrawal I made just before 6am on Sat has been sent to my bank. I did a same day transfer but so far the €25 has not been taken from my account. Maybe it has gone thro as a normal transaction.

Now its a matter of checking my BOI current account every 30 mins from tomorrow on!!

From Sky News page just now in relation to Northern Rock "Bank of England confirmed its emergency loan would be available after any sale". So looks like the Bank of England will continue to back Northern Rock through and beyond any takeover.

Just noticed that the page views of this thread are now almost as many as the "Investment Traps to Avoid" sticky. A bit ironic!!

OK...good news ...just got my transfer which was over 100k ......so NR are honouring withdrawals but it took a bit longer than normal or at least it felt a lot longer...same day withdrawal at 10 am Friday only came in to BOI at 2pm today but I hope thsi reassues people a little...they are honouring withdrawals.

Just to say I don't think NR will be the last ...market is spooked but...just to repeat ...they are honouring withdrawals....so I hope a little reassurance for people..

Well done PT14. Bring the wife out for a good late lunch and a bottle of vino!

well done PT14. Now I'll have to start hounding my AIB site. Made a same day transfer on Thursday night and still not in. Was your same day transfer done on the net or by phone?

same day transfer done in person in their offices on Friday morning...repeated withdrawal online Saturday to be sure to be sure.!

My wife who is with Ulster Bank ( telephone account) is still waiting on her transfer which as done at the same time but with a different agent and she is with Ulster Bank( I 'm with BOI)

Thanks PT14.Mine was online and no sign of it yet.Checked my dad's BOI account and did a same day for him on Thursday night also and no sign of that yet either. Appears that going into the NR office to do business is quicker than online. So much for progress. Moral here seems to be that the net works well when it works but when it breaks it really breaks. I'll just have to keep on sweating for now but your news is I'm sure of great comfort to the rest of us. Thanks again

Not been able to access the account through the website all weekend. Tried the office no. without success. Got through on the 1850 no. within seconds. Hopefully my withdrawal request gets completed this week.
God help the staff is all I can say, I'd imagine they are seriously under resourced in Dublin to deal hundreds of customers on their doorstep.

No problem. Not sure why it is slower online...what I did realise though in the whole process is that what you see online is not realtime.. what you see on your onlien account does not actuallt relect what is the real state of play ..and thsi goes into some form of backoffice queue to be processed. I suspect by going there in person my request got ahead in the queue...having said that no sign of my wife's transfer which was done in person at same time but Ulster rather thna BOI and different agent.

I think it will be ok.Good luck

anyone else getting re-directed to an eskimo loans site when trying to log in? Has the site been hacked or are they linked and trying to advertise loans when people are trying to access their accounts? whichever it is leaves alot to be desired..

scratch that, just seen the end of the page - Eskimo Loans are provided by Northern Rock plc.

What a joke, the acess page has been redirected to an advertisement for loans...

Not a great advertisement for them!

Tried logging on using normal address from my favourites and coming up as "bad request (invalid hostname)". Looks like something happening on the website.

I managed to get through very quickly on that 1850 number in the UK and get my funds transferred. I was told it would take 5 working days so may not see it in my account until next monday! She seemed quite confident that everything was going to be fine with the bank. I kept €1 in just to keep the account open. If things settle down I might transfer some money back into it.
