Nokia E50 & PC Suite

My old Nokia 6230 died & I got a second hand E50. I went to put my contacts on it with bluetooth & PC Suite but holy mother, it is a very different beast. It has a lot more stuff than usual, including running PC suite on the phone. It is looking for server addresses & database names etc, not the way I am used to and I have no manuals. Anyone know if this can be used like most other nokias for backup, and if so, how do I get the std pc suite to work?

One very annoying thing about this phone is that it appears that you cannot toggle between predictive and normal text while composing a text message.

I used the Acrobat Reader application the other day-pretty nifty.

I have software and a manual at work, I'll see if I can answer your query when I'm back in the office, although I'm not overly familiar with the uses you refer to...

while typing a message press the lower button on the right hand side of the phone. this will bring up a little menu on the screen. one of the options there is to turn off predictive text.

I have the car kit but i find the writing very small to read when the phone is in the kit. I downloaded a little program called Font Magnifer. it lets use increase the font size. cost €4, but well worth it in my opinion.

Got what I wanted from the manual, thanks. It took some sifting through though.

If anyone else interested:
1) Menu
2) Connect
3) Data cable ( I am using a CA-53)
4) Select PC Suite
5) Run pc suite on your PC.

It did not work at first, but I used the online phone updater to update the firmware on the phone, and then bob's your uncle.

Thanks-there seems to be more of a knack to doing this than I am used to on other phones.

no worries. on the main screen where you have shortcuts to calender and messageing etc, how do you get rid of these?
i done it once before but cannot remember now.
 
Just done this yesterday, after trying and giving up a few times.

Menu
Tools
Settings
Phone
Standby Mode
Active standby apps.

I find the E50 a real pain in the ar*e to locate anything in the menu. Also, the lag between pressing a button and the screen updating is just too slow for my liking. Must change it soon.

I don't see any 'Settings' option under tools?

Does this alllow you to add/remove shortcuts from standby mode or merely disable them altogether?

It has a picture of a spanner above it on my version anyway.

Yes you can tailor the shortcuts to whatever you want. I don't know about removing them altogether.

Hmmmm, mine must be different. Very annoying little phone. Begining to hate it.
 
Yes-bluespud's method was the one. The 'Settings' option on my E50 is represented by a spanner icon. The 'Tools' option is a folder and a spanner.

This is the phone.

My version has no camera, but I believe there is a version with a camera-and possibly different menus?

I have to say that the functionality is good, even if the user friendliness is not.
 
i have the camera one. nice to be able to send pics via infra red to my laptop and then use these on ebay for things I am selling.
