No private pension

My cousin has recently been made redundant and I've been helping him out with paperwork in preparation for finding another job.
He is not good with managing admin and I as was reviewing for him it came to light that he had not been paying into his employer's pension for the 22 years he was employed there.

His plan is to get started in a new job in the new year.

What are the best options for him at aged 50 without a private pension to start planning for his retirement ?

He should ask his new employer whether they offer an occupational pension scheme. If they do, and especially if the employer also contributes to it, he should join that scheme.
If they don't offer an occupational pension scheme, he should probably look at a PRSA.
