no payment while waiting to be means tested for job seekers allowance

My boyfriend has been told he will not receive anymore of his job seekers benefit payments while being means tested for the allowance. Is this right? He has not received any payments for this week and when he asked what he was ment to do for money the welfare officer shrugged her shoulders and replied that he will be back dated when his application is approved which could take a few weeks. Can they really pay you nothing untill then??
 
your boyfriend should not be means tested if it's job seeker's benefit, only if it's job seeker's allowance (has he not got 2 years 'stamps'?)
he should go to the Community Welfare Officer who may be able to assist with money in the meantime
 
As derek said your boyfriend can apply for Supplementary Welfare Allowance while waiting for Jobseeker's - keep in mind that it is a means-tested payment as well, and your income will be assessed if you and your boyfriend are living together.
 
we went to Australia in 07 and welfare officer told him all his stamps are gone so now because they go by tax year two years previous? he is being means tested for the allowance now. he lives on his own so he should get the allowance but it just didn't know what to do in the time between this. Thanks for the replies we couldn't find anything on the social welfare site to answer the question.
 
I've heard some people waiting up to 12 weeks during this gap and some longer.
 
really?? thats ridiculous. hopefully job comes up or he can get the supplement. fingers crossed
