No more Phone Joe

Fantastic news.

There was a caller talking about dogs in his estate.. he said it was a cross-breed.. half alsatian / half doberman.
The question from Joe was.. " Would they be dangerous and dat?"

But as against that Habemus Papem.

Perhaps some of the Cardinals called Joe (in his capacity as presenter of "The Meaning of Life" on RTE) to seek his advice.

But I can see trouble ahead for the new Pope:-

(he) has faced criticism from advocates for clergy abuse survivors regarding his handling of sexual abuse allegations during his leadership in the Augustinian order and in Peru. The advocacy group SNAP (Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests) has alleged that Prevost failed to act against abuse claims involving Richard McGrath, a former president of Providence Catholic High School, allowing him to remain in his position despite longstanding accusations. I just can't help thinking about David McSavage's hilarious take on Joe on his show, 'The Savage Eye' - which incredible to think - was aired by RTE Network 2 about 15 or more years ago - before the Woke Wave flooded Montrose.

(I won't post the link but you can search YouTube under The Savage Eye - John Duffy!)

For a start I want to wish Joe Duffy all the best in his retirement. He brought a terrific radio show to the people, He gave voice to the voiceless and convinced many people to think. He’s from Ballyfermot, so what! He became successful and didn’t fear to tread where others wouldn’t. He used a good back-up team and wasn’t afraid to admit when he got something wrong. He will be missed by many and so what if he had leftie views when he was in university? We all have a right to change when we wish. It’s called maturing. He will have successors and I hope they will be as good.

So do I. He's very knowledgeable on Irish history in general and Dublin history specifically.

I disagree there. Gay Byrne did that and nobody has come close since (or needed to). Gay changed Irish society.

I agree. That said he did engage in some awful tripe a good bit of the time.

The old line that if you're not a socialist at 18 you've no heart and if you're still a socialist at 30 you've no brain springs to mind.

I hear on the grapevine that Purple is hot favourite for the liveline slot :D
I can't comment until my agent makes a statement later this afternoon.
I turned down the Pope gig (wrong kind of cross dressing) so I'm at a bit of a lose end at the moment.

I loved the way he could slice and dice people who though they were his better on air,how he would Initally welcome and be pleasing then gently walk them into there own trap, you could Almost hear him saying under his breath slowly slowly. catchee monkey'
