No entitlements and no income..

I'm a 20 year old girl attending a private college in Dublin, but live in laois with my parents and commute up and down each day. Three years ago my fathers engineering company went bust and since then, there has been no income coming into our house. They have been told that due to the fact they owned a company, they are not entitled to anything. And because I'm attending a private college (which my Gran is paying for) I am also entitled to nothing. Is there any way around this???

You may be entitled to childrens allowance up to 21 - if in full time education and there may be specific requirements of college, You may also be entitled to a grant but this will also depend on the college and or course.

Sorry to hear about your parents company. Could you get a part time job? I use to waitress in a local hotel for functions - back in 1989 I got £8 - about €30 I'd say for 3-4 hours work.

Looks like your dad will need to get a job to support you if you can't do it yourself. If he had an engineering co he must have transferable skills which he could use as an employee.

Get your dad to have a look at this. How have your aprents managed for past three years? Perhaps there is an income/assets that mean he cannot claim Jobseeker's Allowance as he soes not satisy the means test due to income/assets?
