New York - Passport query?

Going to New York for the first time for a few days in July.

I have an old passport about 9 years old.

Is this all I require and does it have to be in date longer than 1 year remaining on the passport.

Mine is 8 years old and it's fine & I've used it a lot for the US in the last few years. Longer than 6 months I think is required. There's a good thread here from last week....do a search it'll be around.

Longer that six months isn't required, there is a waiver for Irish citizens. As long as its valid for your return journey it's fine. I checked this out last year, I went in Nov and my passport expired in March this year.

Just be sure that it's a machine-readable passport (i.e. not handwritten), otherwise you'll need a visa for your NY visit.

Don't listen to travel agents and their scaremongering about passport validity. So long as it is valid for your length of stay you will be ok.
