New sofa, don't want to pay deposit

I am buying a new sofa in Reid's and went in at the weekend enquiring, they said they need a deposit before ordering... now call me stupid but in the current climate with businesses going to the wall every week I don't feel safe handing over a deposit for something I won't get for 16 weeks. 16 weeks is a long time in this climate, anyone agree I should be able to order and pay in full on delivery instead of paying a deposit I will most definitely loose if they go under.

They won't do that. Pay the deposit on your credit card and if anything happens, the card firm will reimburse you.

I wouldn't pay a deposit four months in advance in this climate either. Ask them, it can do no harm, and then decide whether to take your valuable custom elsewhere!

Last time I bought a sofa we went up to Navan where we had lots to chose from and I know we gave a very small deposit €100 and the rest COD, as they are mostly factory stores we had it delivered the next week.

Suggest you try some of your local dealers rather then a chain, you may be better able to hammer out a deal and they can tend to be more flexible around deposits.
