Hi there,

just wondering what a newly qualified accountant working in the private sector might hope to earn. I only ask because my brother is considering doing the accountancy exams and was told by a friend of mine that newly quals start off in the region of 100k. I know nothing about salaries in the financial sector but I thought this seemed very high. Anyone know if this is right?

That does sound very high. I know a financial controller who's only on 70k.

I wouldn't believe the 100k - what do you think they get after 10 years 300K??

Its more like 40 - 50K assuming that the individual also has experience i.e worked in finance/accountancy while studying.

A 100K? This post will be deleted if not edited immediately I wish!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! more like 40-50K and even then it depends on practice (what size) or industry

Hi
Newly qualified accountants with relevant experience ie 2-3 in industry or practice are being paid in the region of €60k -€65k. This is in the financial services sector, not sure about manufacturing. This is based on actual experience from recruiting these types of candidates.

Thanks Mum2Kids. The guy in question who said this is not actually even in the financial services sector so I will admit I had to pick my jaw up off the floor when I heard the 100k comment. Then thought that I was maybe completely out of touch. I'd have thought 60k and that seems to be about right. Thanks everyone

I would have thought closer to 50-55k, 100k is a pipe dream except maybe for a qualified accountant with 5 plus years working in the funds industry.

€100k is the type of salary that a Senior Manager/Financial Controller/Head of Finance in a large company or in financial services might be earning. It is nowhere near what a newly qualified with no post qualification experience (PQE) could hope to make, even taking bonus and benefits into account.

I would agree with MUM2KIDS, although it depends on the size of the company, location etc.
