8 Use the "quote" button sparingly

When replying to a post, use the "Post Reply" button or "Reply" button in preference to the “quote” button.

Quoting a very long post in its entirety makes the thread very cluttered

Only use the quote button to quote the bits directly relevant to your comments.

Do not quote the post immediately above your one.

we will politely draw offenders' attention to this posting guideline initially.

But after a while, we will just delete posts which break the guideline.

The moderators considered disabling the quote button, but decided to retain it on balance.

I agree with this, but don't do away with it altogether, as sometimes its handy to extract a portion of a post relevant to one's comments.
