New PC - what to look for in specs/price

Hi all,

Am in the market for a new PC - have almost fully ruled out a laptop, due to cost/fragility.

I looked at the ALDI deal people were recommending here, but with screen incl. it works out at over €1,300 which is far more than I want to spend.

What are the most important things I should be looking for in a PC ie memory size, chip speed etc? It would be used exclusively for word, excel, ms money and broadband internet.

Should I pay a bit more to get a more 'high-tech' system in order to future proof it? Or should I just go for one of the bottom-line DELL's for around €500?
 
If you go the Dell route, chance the arm and cancel the order just after placing it, they might come back with a 15% discount, they did it for me last December, maybe that 'policy' is still in place!
 
dell dimension 5000

Hi,

i bought a dell dimension 5000 with 19" ultrasharp flat panel, 160GB HD (7200rpm), 1024GB RAM, 2.8GHz P4 HT etc etc all for only 833 with free delivery, double RAM and €100 off. its well worth the money.
