Friend just turned 65 has retired from work as reached retirement age. Wants to keep working in less physical job. Will he qualify for the new payment? Has anyone got his at age 65?

Is he retired or not? The post is confusing on this point.

If he is still available for, and actively seeking employment, the wording below from the PRJB operational guidelines implies that he would qualify.

He should state that he has ceased an employment, rather than that he has retired.

"Between 65 and 66 Years of Age

Persons aged between 65 and 66 years of age may receive Jobseeker’s Pay-Related Benefit if they have not retired from employment. Where their entitlement to Jobseeker’s Pay-Related Benefit has exhausted, they may receive this payment beyond 39 weeks or 26 weeks whichever is applicable up to the date on which they reach pensionable age (66 years) provided they have not less than 156 paid contributions since first entering employment.

If the person has retired, Benefit Payment for 65 Year Olds is the appropriate scheme for them."

He should apply for PRJB.
If it turns out that this is not allowed he can then apply for JB65.

PS you seem to have answered your question here.

Retirement from an employment at any age up to age 65 should make no difference. If a person wishes to remain in the employment market and are unemployed they could qualify for PRJB

They have retired in the sense that they are getting their work pension. But they are available and want to work full time.

@partnership
They are ceasing employment as their employment contract has ended. i.e. it ended because they have reached age 65.

They should state reason for unemployment as 'employment contract ended'.

If they state this when applying for PRJB they should qualify.
