hi just wondering for opinions regarding either getting a new ecu for me car or getting the excisting one repaired what are the pro's and con's of each etc.

Can be difficult to repair - especially as typically ECU damage is caused by water ingress. New ECU may be up to €500 - €600 depending on car.

Should be able to get from breakers for about €70 or €80 though - that's the route I'd go. Be careful though - be VERY specific and go by all the reference numbers on the old ECU as it is not sufficient simply to get an "ECU for a 2001 1.4 Corolla" for example.

You might need to change the lock barrels as the immobiliser operates through the ECU and obviously the chip in your exisiting keys wont be programmed to a replacement ECU. You could get the replacement ECU flash EPROM reprogrammed to your exisiting immobiliser code but I suppose it depends on what is the cheapest option.
