A guy in work told me that I should be able to make some type of tax claim for my lunch each day because I work away from my company most days.

So I work for an IT consultancy and they send me out to clients to work. The work can be either 1 day long to 1 year long. It is a sort of rolling day situation. So is there anything I can do to claim for lunch or even petrol for travelling out to clients?

I googled some things and found the subsistence expenses page revenue.ie/en/tax/it/leaflets/it54.html but I don't quite understand it or if it is even what I am looking for.

You can't claim for lunch (on the basis that either way you have to eat).

You could claim tax free travel expenses based on civil service mileage rates (see www.revenue.ie), rates lower than civil service rates or the vouched cost of the petrol. Talk to your HR/payroll people...they should know the score.
