Hey,insurance has jumped from 600 to 965 this year. Zero claims, same car etc. I've got a new quote for fully comp in around the 600 mark, depending on the extras I take. I've an option of full NCB @85 euro or step back protection for 30 but not the option of both which is what Im sure I had on my previous policies. Can anyone enlighten me as to which option is the best or should I look for them both? Thks

I have 10 years plus driving experience and I always go with the step back protection just to keep the costs down.
I didn't think you could have both on a policy, I thought it was on or the other?

I've never seen both as an option - just either or, or neither.
I'm not sure that both even makes sense since full protection surely renders step back protection redundant?
Bear in mind today, as covered in other threads, NCB protection may only be useful if you have a claim, benefit from the protection, but then don't switch insurers.
I.e. NCB protection by one insurer won't be recognised by other insurers.

Insurers go by the numbers of years of discount earned on the NCB certificate. If that has been protected then it's a higher number of years and is transferable to other insurers.

That's not what I've read in many other places. Maybe it depends on the underwriter?

BTW even if the NCB is protected the base premium will increase due to previous claims so the discount will be applied to a (possibly much) higher base premium anyway. Another thing to bear in mind when deciding whether or not to protect the NCB.
Not my experience
How does having step back protection on top of full protection make any sense?
