Natural Stone Patio - Clash with house

I am looking to put down the patio area in my new build in the next couple of weeks. its fairly big area(65sq m).

the house is old farmhouse style made with reclaimed blue/gray limestone and recalimed rustic red brick as edgings. the stone is obviously very random and rough as all reclaimed. its not patterned or ordered looking in any way.

problem is,the patio stone im getting is indian sandstone. the colour is fine. im just concerned that as it comes in sqaures and rectangles (french design i think its called)....like 600*900, 600*600, 600*300 and 300*300 pieces....im worried it might clash with the stone on the house....i.e very rusticy random old stone V squares and rectangles on the patio?

the guy selling me the stone recommended if i was worried bout this to put down all 600*900's and lay them using the brick effect design. however the guy that is laying the patio for me said that would look bad against the house and go for the mixure of all the sizes...

im confused....any suggestions appreciated!!!
 
Can you get some of the different stones in advance and do a smalll dry run - lay them out using both options to see what you think looks best yourself ?

Personally, I would be inclined to keep it fairly simple, as it sounds like there's enough going on with the stones on the house itself. I think fussy, overly designed patios look too busy and especially on such a large area.
 
Could you post a picture of a section of the house so we could get some idea of what it looks like. I think a lot of people will already be familar with Indian sand Stone. LS.

PLease see a couple of pics attached....ive laid out some old grey concrete slabs i had against the house in the brick design to give an idea of one of the options...ill also try the more random design later if i can get some slabs off the guy im looking to buy off....

judging by the pic i think the brick design will be enough....i think if igo randon squares/rectangles it will look a bit of a dogs dinner?!

anyone else any other suggestions against this type of house?

Lovely house Brenno. The slabs are perfect - I would stick with these or the smaller squares, but in no way go for a mixture - there's enough going on with the wall, so keep it simple.
 
thanks rois...the majority is saying the simple rectangular design so methinks i will go with it...

im thinking now tho a rectangular granite slab(similar to window sill)....it would be a very clean simple expensive finish and would match window sills. although the granite slab is v expensive :-(

oh the joys of housebuilding!!
 
Would also keep it simple. The walls look great and could be detracted from with Inidan sand stone. Best to go for a very simple solution like the slabs you have against the walls at present or some sort of very plain concrete. You can dress the area up with plants etc when finished. Personally I think the granite might be a bit ott but that is just me. Love the house by the ay. LS.
 
+1 agree the granite could be a bit too much - enough that you have it on the window sills
 
thanks for input guys...really appreciate this help...sure you can understand it could be an expensive mistake so trying to get it right.

so ive whittled it down to a simple design...either indian sandstone or perhaps concrete....

one last suggestion..what do u guys think of this castlestone paving?

I would prefer the indian sandstone but make sure to go for a grey/darkish grey fairly uniform in colour in just the rectangular slabs.
 
Straightforward half-bond brick pattern would be best as it will emphasise the random style of stonework. Personally, I would choose the mint sandstone paving, which is various shades of tan/brown/cream, it will contrast nicely against the darkness of the limestone and give a more warm/bright overall look to the house. If you choose the grey sandstone it will look very similar to the slabs in the picture and wont really do anything for the stonework,IMO.
Contrast can be king when matching stone paving with stone walling!
Place a mint sandstone slab in front of the house and if its not to your taste(or budget), start pouring concrete!!
