Hi,

Anyone know about how long a named driver experience is valid for, when applying for motor insurance in your own name?
I was a named driver for a good few yrs in late 90s, but have been driving on an open policy since.
It seems with some insurers (eg: Quinn), the named driving experience must be within the last 2 years, whereas other insurance companies don't seem to stipulate (perhaps it's mentioned somewhere in the T&Cs).

TIA,
HD

It usually has to be current and up to date. The fact that a No Claims Bonus has to be within the last 2-3 years means I highly doubt you would have any luck with named driving experience from 10 years ago.

If you were named on an open drive policy you might be able to get some discount for that if you can get a letter from the insurer stating there was no claims and a letter from the policyholder stating you were driving. No garauntees but maybe try bringing it to a broker and they might be able to refer it on and get some sort of intro bonus.
