My friend's son has just moved away and it so happens her car insurance is due.
When she phoned her insurance company (think it's AXA) to ask for a new quote they said that her son's named driver experience would expire after 3 months so that if he were to go for insurance in the future, the fact that he has been driving for 4 years (1 of them on provisional and the other 3 on a full licence) would be ignored and it would be as if he were starting again.
It would cost almost €600 to insure him on a car he won't be there to drive, so my friend is not keen to have to pay out this money. Can the insurance company be right on this? I can't believe that they can ignore 4 years of history - if the son had had an accident in that period they wouldn't ignore that! But apparently the insurance company said this 3 month period is across all insurance companies.
