myself and my wife on disability :entitled to any other payments ?

Hi all,
Hope I can get a small bit of help here.
I had an acident in work in May 2000 where I badly damaged my back. I have been through many opperations and I am still out of work. My wife had a baby last March and went through a very bad time, as a result she too is on disability. We recieve payments of E165.80 for myself and she gets E174.20 per week. This is our only income.
Could anybody tell me if we could be entitled to any other payments as times are getting hard.

Hi Bob

As your illness was caused by an accident at work, have you applied for Disablement Benefit? This benefit is paid with Disabilty Benefit. It can be a weekly amount or a lump sum payment, depending on the degree of disablement.

Hi Bob
Sorry for all you've both been through....
It might be a good idea for you both to visit your local Community Welfare office to meet a Comminity Welfare Officer to discuss your case. These offices are generally in local health clinics. You might be entitled to rent/mortgage allowance. Additionally you might be entitled to a medical card (see your GP for the forms), and fuel allowance (speak to CWO)
