My driving license is up for renewal - should I get a Public Services Card?

Not for me. I renewed my driving licence just before Christmas (turned 70). I didn't have to submit any new photo. They just used the one that was on my Public Services Card.

As an addendum to this post, if anyone has bus and truck categories on their licence, these are valid for five rather than ten years so in effect you need to renew your licence every five years if you want to maintain these categories.

Hi Brendan ,

You need a Public Service Card to withdraw the State Pension and to avail of Free Travel if you are 66 years of age

He's trying to renew his driving license, not get a free travel pass or claim a state pension... He doesn't need the PSC for in person renewal of the driving license.

Hi ClubMan
But... it's a valid point.

If someone needs a PSC anyway, they might as well get one as the process for getting a driving license would be easier.

I had an appointment today at 12.10 - I arrived about 2 minutes early.
I was out at 12.17

Very efficient.
They took 3 photographs. He eliminated one and gave me my choice of the other two.

Apparently, I will get my new license in the post in about 2 weeks.

Brendan
