Moving to Dublin

I’m thinking of moving to Dublin from rural Ireland in the near future and looking for suggestions where to live.

Budget is small - c.€200k - and would prefer a small house rather than an apartment and would need a parking space.

I’ll be moving on my own and would prefer to be between the canals for access to the city for returning to study, socialising et al.

I know that areas can vary within a couple of streets so I’m open to living anywhere safe.

Thanks in advance.

There is no such thing as a house between the canals with a parking space for under €200k. Even omitting the parking space, Daft.ie shows a total of two properties matching the other criteria and at least one of them is a location I wouldn't wish on anybody. Don't want to be a spoilsport but I don't think your criteria are realistic.

Thanks for the reply. The only reason I’m looking for a house rather than apartment is for equipment storage but a van with everything on board might be an option.

Any suggestions of areas for an apartment?

Try daft.ie and myhome.ie as your first port of call to give you an idea of the (very limited) range available. It's a bit of a nightmare out there to be honest.

Being honest i don't think you'll even get an apartment in Dublin for that amount, certainly not in a desirable area.

I've friends of my daughter and son with apartments in Cork St and they've never had problems. One and Two bedroom apartments in that area are not as expensive as a few hundred yards away, are central to almost everything. No, you won't get any house for that money, the €200k you mention might help you with a "deposit" for a site in the area you mention, but that's about it.

I wouldn't advise leaving anything of value in a van overnight around most of Dublin.

Deffo on that. Link to RTE Prime Time programme below. Watch it on the RTE player to see the level of theft taking place.
