My home has a variable rate mortgage 12 years gone on a 25 year mortgage, I am planning on moving to a new house which will be my new home, the new house will have it's own new mortgage, all good so far..
I want to switch to a fixed rate on the original house which I am going to rent out.. Should I be looking at Buy to Let mortgages ?

I'd say that's a yes. As I understand it an owner occupier mortgage does not permit letting as part of the T&C's.

I have heard (but I don't know if it's true) that some lenders do not have any conditions that allow them to end your fixed rate if you move out of the property and start renting it out.

That is to say, if you were to find such a lender and switch to a fixed rate with them (before you move out), you would be entitled to keep your fixed rate even after you move out.
