Motrgage interest relief

Hi,

Myself and my boyfriend are considering buying a house within the next year. His job is not too secure. I am trying to calculate how much mortgage interest relief we would get. I was wondering if we bought the house together while both working and he was then to lose his job, would the amount of mortgage interest relief then reduce? Also would being married make any difference to mortgage interest relief?

Mortgage interest relief is not related you your income insofar as I know, so no, it would not be reduced if he lost his job. Not sure about the answer to the other question though.

Perhaps a more important question is can you comfortably afford the mortgage if your boyfriend is let go and is unemployed for a lengthy period
