Mortgage Interest Relief Question?

This is an issue concerning entitlement to mortgage interest relief.
Earlier this year we purchased a family home in Kildare with the intention of selling our original small mortgage free house in North Dublin.
However the teenage kids are just not happy to operate for the new house Monday to Friday due to the commute & much earlier starts in the morning.
So now to plan B.
If rather than sell we decide to hold on to the original home also , obviously with no rents excetera, will we still be entitled to claim mortgage interest relief on what is our new family home in Kildare?
Also is there any other tax issues with holding both houses without tennants?

You can only get mortgage interest relief (TRS) on your principal private residence. So just on one house.

Tennants = type of lager beer

tenant = person who rents a property

Yes you are entitled to mortgage interest relief on the house in Kildare as long as it is your principle private residence. However, as you'll own two houses, if you sell the one in North Dublin at a later date you'll be liable for capital gains tax on the profits.
