Mortgage Interest Relief - Mid year change

In January of this year my Mortgage Interest Relief changed from €166 per month to €37/month. I had an initial mortgage taken out in 2005 but this was topped up in 2009. When the relief reduced in January I was told it was as a result of 7 years into initial mortgage. I sent a couple of emails about this to revenue as I wondered did we qualify for the increased relief as a result of budget 2012. I only got a vague response from revenue and never followed it up. Roll on to June of this year and I rang revenue again with the same query and the lady told me to email them with details and a supervisor would make a decision on it. Again I neglected to follow up but a letter arrived in July stating that the bank was increasing the relief from €37/month to €127/month on the instruction of revenue. I am completely in the dark as to why this happened and also curious as to why it would happen mid year. Now almost afraid to contact revenue to ask in case they take it back again.

Anyone any ideas?
