Does anybody know what interest rates are Ulster Bank paying for this type of account.
And is it advisable to invest for a period of a year or thereabout?

Ulster Bank do not publicly publish their money desk deposit rates. You can find out the rates by ringing Ulster Bank.

The last I heard of the rights they were pretty poor. Ulster Bank also offer fixed term deposit rates. These rares are most likely better. Ulster Bank offer 0.6% AER fixed for one year currently.
