Hi All

My mother worked as a nurse between the 1950s up to 1975.

During this time from 1956 to 1960 approx she was a trainee nurse and paid ordinary / non modified stamps.

Then she worked for 11 years in the UK, following this she returned home and work in Ireland for 3 years appox. The stamps at this stage were initially ordinary but then the contribution became modified stamps. She ceased employment on marriage. She didn’t qualify for any further stamps / credits during marriage.

We applied for a contributory pension. She qualified for a partial pension. However the modified stamps didn’t entitle her to anything. The were only used to see if she would qualify for the pension but not counted as contributions paid. We were told if she had circa 30 more ordinary contributions she would be in the next band to get an increase in the pension. Can the modified contributions be used/refunded or any benefit gained from them?

She is not entitled to a nursing pension in Ireland ..

If anyone has any advice it would be great.

Thanks
