This may of been discussed already but just wanted to ask again.
What are people’s experience of living in a mobile while building. Would you do it again? What advice would you give?

We are looking to start building next spring with our first baby on the way. We are already in the mobile, It’s plenty warm but just more worried about space and storage than anything else. Should we just rent and get rid of the mobile.
Any advice welcome.
Thank you.

Congrats on the new arrival.

If anything newborns are easier; toddlers on a building site are a bigger worry.

Adjust the mindset - reduce all your 'stuff', most of us dont need the half of what we have.

The amount of laundry generated by small people has to be seen to be believed; so set up a good laundry space (perhaps an adjoining shed?) And carve out a bit of outside space with fencing around the mobile so you have some privacy from all the site works

Have a back up plan (family or friends) for the days when the power goes out or everyone is just feeling miserable.

Build in a few 'treats' with the money you save - wkend away, spa day for herself, golf day for himself or vice versa - what ever works, make sure you have one 'thing' every quarter or so.
Good luck!

Lived in a mobile for 5 yrs, from newborn stage to 5, lot to be said for it as you can't accumulate too much stuff and it's quick to clean! That was over 30 yrs ago and it was an old mobile even when we bought it so not of the fancier ones you can get these days that have good windows and insulation.

Still quite bearable and I honestly found it fine, wasn't building though at the time, we had just put it behind parents house as rented place turned out very damp and was trying to save to buy.

Speaking of washing clothes that was back when a twintub was the height of luxury! I washed clothes by hand before we got that and no dryer obviously, still all doable.

Thank you so much for the reply and great advice!

It’s exactly what we are looking to hear! Positive but realistic! And doable.

Reducing the “stuff” will be the toughest part I think and only having what is needed stored in the caravan! As you said what comes along with the newborn can fairly stack up!
We have our parents not too far away for those power outages so it reassuring.
Storage solutions are most welcome!!

Thanks again.

If you don't already have planning permission for the new build, make sure the temporary use of the mobile home is included in the application. It's illegal to live in one without permission.
