Medical Expenses on Form 11

I've been using ROS for the past few years when doing our self assessment for Income Tax. We were always PAYE only but rental income since 2011 required us to do a return since then. All is quite straight forward but I'd like to clarify something re Medical Expenses.

For the first time we are claiming for expenses related to Gluten Free food for our son. Do I calculate the total cost for the year and and put that amount in with all other Med expenses and will system automatically calculate the relief or do I enter 20% of all the costs. Hope that makes sense! Any advice appreciated.

Thanks

The full amount of costs should be entered on the form and the system calculates the 20% tax relief automatically

Would recommend that you check with Revenue first re inclusion of this expense! Even if your son is on a special prescribed Gluten free diet Revenue may not allow the full expense as a necessary medical one. Call the Revenue help line and they will let you know what uis allowable.
