Can I claim on Med 1 & 2 forms as a single parent who doesn't pay PAYE due to single parent tax credit? I have huge medical bills so anything back would be a bonus!

To claim tax back you must have paid tax. Unfortunately if, as you say, you have nil tax due to credits exceeding income then you cannot claim anything.

It might be worth while exploring medical card or GP visit card entitlements. Especially if any of the medical conditions relate to any specified or long term illnesses. The HSE website has more information.

Thanks, I recently have a medical card for conditions but have bills from the summer. My income would be lower than €13,000.00 so Im not sure if I would be paying PAYE either. I do pay employee's PRSI though...

PAYE shouldn't be an issue on these earnings, particular with the tax credit for lone parents.

You should check with your employer re PRSI- on an annual income of €13000 gross you shouldn't be paying any PRSI (source: http://www.welfare.ie/EN/Publications/SW14/SW14_10/Pages/ClassA.aspx- see the table headed 'Subclass A0' which says that no PRSI is payable on earnings of less than €352 per week).

Give your employer a copy of your medical card , and you should avoid paying the health contribution etc .

It is actually the employers responsibility to establish if an employee has a medical card . However there are many employers that don't know this.

Here is the official line from welfare.ie :

Note:
  • Medical card holders, people aged 70 years and over, recipients of a Widow's or Widower's Pension from the Department of Social and Family Affairs, a One-Parent Family Payment, a Deserted Wife's Benefit/Allowance and recipients of a Widow's or Widower's Pension acquired under the social security legislation of a country covered by EC Regulations do not have to pay the Health Contribution - even if their pay is more than €500 a week.
  • It is the employer's responsibility to establish if employees fall into any of the above categories.

You should not pay tax on income as stated above , however ensure you have a cumulative tax credit certificate
