Hi
My wife left her part time job 3 years ago to look after her Father. He is 95 years of age and lives on his own, near our house. She is over and back to him multiple times per day. She is unable to take a job whilst he needs her.
She has never looked to claim any payment as a carer, but we have been hit with a few sizable bills, and was wondering what the means tests are to claim some sort of carer payment for her. Would she be entitled to anything or would my salary and her land be taken into account.
She has inherited 40 acres of land which she rents out and gets about 14k per year. That is her only income. I work full time earn about 80k per annum. We have two secondary school children and dont have a morgage.

Thanks S class. She has an accountant that submits her tax returns each year. She spoke with her accountant last week about this and he said to her to make voluntary contributions in order to get her contributions towards her state pension. Her land rental is not subject to tax as their is a section (cant remember which one) that allows this. She pays tax though on her biss payments that come with the land. Should she be able to get these contributions as she has income from the land.
