I am a long time fan of this site but this is my first post in over 10 years.
I'll give a bit of background to my query first. Up until September 2017 I was working for 21 years either part-time while I was in school and
college or full time for the last 16 years. The last 14 years were spent in the same company. I decided I wanted a change in career so I left work and went back to college to complete a Masters in a completely unrelated field. There isn't massive employment opportunities in the field I want to go into but I would hope to find something in 3-6 months. If I don't I'll get something else part-time or whatever to tide me over.

My question is am I entitled to unemployment benefit once I finish college in May or do I need to wait for 9 weeks as when I left work last September it was voluntarily? I have full PRSI up until Sept 17 but I believe my claim will be based on my 2016 PRSI in any case. My college fees, mortgage and living expenses for the 9 months were all covered from savings and I didn't claim anything while I was in college.
    Thank you!
