Maternity leave tax refund

Looking to claim my tax back for 2016 myself and wife both PAYE workers. My wife was on 6 months maternity leave and got 240 welfare payment. Is this payment considered income for tax? Also we paid 3k consultants fees. 1.5k in 2015 and 1.5k in 2016. Can I claim full 3k in 2016? I didn't submit 1.5k for 2015 in my application for tax refund

Maternity benefit is subject to income tax but not PRSI or USC.

You cannot claim for health expenses paid in 2015 in a review for 2016.

Request an amended review for 2015.

Once the payment was made in 2015, you are entitled to relief for that year.

A review can be amended for anything for which you omitted to claim in the original, provided you claim within the four-year time limit.
