The Oasis web-site says "The entitlement to maternity leave from employment extends to all female employees in Ireland (including casual workers), regardless of how long you have been working for the organisation or the number of hours worked per week"

What happens if you are on probabtion?. If you start a job and they tell you you are on 6 months probation and within those 6 months you fall pregnant. I presume this could be used as a get - out clause and they will not have to keep you on for maternity leave?

Pretty sure that maternity supercedes everything, though the employer may not have any obligation to top up salary

The employer has no obligation to top up salary, no matter how long employed.

By topping up your salary, does that mean that the legal amount you are entitled to is €245 (or thereabouts) a week but some employers leave their employees on the same pay as they were on while working?

Some employers don't pay the employee during maternity leave.
Some pay full salary.
Some pay full salary less MB.

It all depends on the employee's contract of employment.

Note that the maximum rate of MB is €265.60 and the minimum is €182.60 assuming you meet the other (e.g. PRSI payment) conditions. Not everybody is entitled to MB automatically.

Not everyone is entitled automatically?

The Oasis web-site seemed to suggest that they are with their ""The entitlement to maternity leave from employment extends to all female employees in Ireland (including casual workers), regardless of how long you have been working for the organisation or the number of hours worked per week"

Do you know what the requirements are? or where to find them?

I said not everybody is entitled to maternity benefit not leave. MB is linked to PRSI history and other conditions. I was commenting in response to this comment:
