Hi guys, quick one.

In the employee handbook in this company it states that maternity benefit is 26 weeks at full pay, i.e. Social Welfare is paying Mat Ben direct to tehe company and the company is making up the difference.

Unfortunately, it isn't clear whether "full pay" is net or gross.

Anyone have any idea what the usual story is?

They haven't a clue. No one has been pregnant before :D

When I use to work in payroll we deducted what the social welfare advised.

The deduction was a greater amount that you you received for the SW but you ended with the same nett gave or take a euro. So your payroll department should contact the SW regarding the correct deduction.

Your employer has no obligation to pay you anything, so there is no right answer.
Most employers who pay full mat pay, give you the same take home pay.

At the end of the year, Make sure that your P60 shows the exact amount that you were paid, with the Mat Ben deduced, and not the full amount. You may be due a small tax rebate.
