Maternity Benefit taxable?

Hi,

my wife is self-employed (sole trader) - she is about to go on maternity leave and will receive state benefit. Later on in the year she will post an annual return to the Revenue as usual - does the maternity benefit count as taxable income?

The return that she makes later on this year is for 2006. Her 2007 return is not due until October 2008.
